What types of solar panel warranty are available in Scotland?
Three types: a 25-year panel performance warranty, a 10-year minimum workmanship warranty on the installation, and a 5–10 year inverter warranty. All three must be provided in writing in your contract.
Panel Performance Warranty (25 years)
Guarantees that your panels will still produce at least 80-85% of their original output after 25 years. This is a manufacturer warranty and covers degradation of the panel cells over time.
Workmanship Warranty (10 years minimum)
Covers the quality of the installation — the labour, mounting system, wiring, and overall work done on your property. A minimum of 10 years is standard. Scottish Energy Efficiency provides a 10-year workmanship warranty.
Inverter Warranty (5-10 years)
The inverter is the component most likely to need replacement during your system's lifetime. Warranties typically last 5-10 years. Some manufacturers offer extended warranty options.
